Needs some updating and some general TLC Bed (King?) was on wheels so when I sat down it moved away Not dirty but not quite as clean as I’d prefer - rubbish from previous guest in the bin/bathroom bin had some dark wet stuff in the bottom What looked like bloodstains on the carpet (looked like it had been thoroughly cleaned and just a stain but made you wanna wear shoes.)

Couldn't turn the fan off in the bathroom so there was a continual humm at night. I'm not sure but I don't think the aircon worked at all

Location

No hand towels, when asked the staff said they only provide bath towels. Breakfast finishes at 9 am far too early.

The location was good. There was also lots of free parking. Breakfast was good but a bit expensive (29 nz dollars).

The floor carpet was dirty. There was a leaking pipe in our bathroom.

Great location for central city. Close restaurants. Great for walks around lake front.

Room staff on room tidy (which they did well) forgot to replace a couple of tea sachet.

The room & hotel were clean. The bed was comfortable.

The two nights we were there, we had to request hand towels on both days. Also, the vanity in the bathroom was broken; I went to lean on it, and it lifted. Finally, when I approached reception to ask for the hand towels, the staff member seemed annoyed/bothered at my request. However, most staff were friendly.

Q: Were there any wild animals kept at the property? A: How am I supposed to know? I thought I’d booked a stay in an hotel not a zoo. I didn’t see any and as I didn’t try the pool I can’t vouch for what may have been swimming around in there... However since I stayed at the NOVOTEL and NOT the IBIS I suppose some of the residents at the Ibis would be ‘wild’ as it was the COVID quarantine centre, (hence we were re-allocated to the NOVOTEL). So Booking.com the following is about the NOVOTEL Rotorua. This next question came up originally as about breakfast. I started to fill it in then stopped to answer phone and it is now under ‘likes‘ ? Hence the rather negative following. Well you’ve asked, A bit disappointing. The coffee was just from a normal machine. I much prefer fresh/cafetière. When I asked there were no papers to read. Also the sausages are tasteless. Mass produced, surely you can find some good Local butchers flavoursome sausages? The croissants were dry. The fried eggs that I asked for were excellent. Cooked perfectly. However no brown sauce in sight. Always just tomato. An ‘English’ breakfast should always have a brown sauce nearby. Eg HP Sauce and in the squeezable bottle. Perfectly acceptable. Plates not warm. Great being so close to ‘eating street’ which is just over the road.

A sign that said sauna but no saunas. The main entrance portico was not lit. It was dark when I arrived and pouring with rain. The instructions about room and services was not in a folder but on the TV. I spent half an hour trying to work out how to bring it up. The reception sent someone up but she couldn’t work it. The maintenance man arrived and said it was the wrong remote. Brought another, it didn’t work, brought another neither did it. Next one did. I asked why there was a draught in the room by the window even though I’d had the heat on for ages. He checked The louvre panel and said that it wasn’t on. He then had to go into the ceiling in the bathroom and fiddle in there. Then it was excellent. This guy was great and said I was right if we didn’t tell them how we’re they to know? He did a great job 5 stars!!! Very quick, very efficient. I normally like the subdued lighting but I do like a choice. There was no overhead bright lighting for during a very dark dingy rainy winters day. I was there to relax and read but lighting left a lot to be desired. Hot water in the bathroom excellent! It was hot! I enjoyed my bath. It would have been nice to have had some chilled water in the fridge, I prefer sparkling but you wouldn’t have known that. I bought my own.

Great location and got a good rate for a long weekend really so it was value for the weekend. Staff very helpful and friendly.

One elevator was out of action so a bit of a wait at times for the only one working. No restaurant or food facilities had to go next door to Novotel to use theirs like breakfast and pool etc. Remote in room was flat and we had to wait a good hour before they brought it back to room working so sat in room waiting. But it was very busy so was ok nothing to really complain about. Would definitely stay again

It was clean , well appointed and the hotel facilities were great.
